How will offshore wind contribute to shutting down natural gas plants?

Natural gas and fossil fuel plants are the number one contributor to greenhouse gas emissions on the planet. The constant reliance of burning natural resources has trickling affects on many communities local to these plants.

Mainly communities of color that experience high forms of environmental racism from exploitation through heavy emission plants. For example, during hot summers where power usage increases, local communities have to deal with the impacts of natural gas plants running while not having reliable energy in their homes. These communities affected from energy generation should be the first to benefit and co-govern clean renewable energy systems. During Assembly Bill (AB) 525, the offshore wind strategic plan, there was a lack of implementation from public comments which is a focus to not repeat going forward in offshore winds legislature.

Offshore wind's main purpose to to contribute to the greater goal of decarbonizing the energy grid by generating clean renewable energy.

The constant push to innovate in the renewable energy space brings questions to whether or not natural gas plants will be shut down in the future.
